The Pops
The band, was born in the middle of 1965, with the name âThe Cricketsâ, later changed âThe Popsâ.
The line-up with four musicians, typical for those years, was composed of âchildrenâ little more than children: Sandro Coin on drums, Salvatore Lo Voi on Bass, Alberto Pernini on rhythm guitar and Vocals, and Daniele Torresan on solo guitar.
Already the year after the birth of the Band, in 1966, they began to perform in public, initially in the premises of the Lido of Venice, frequented by young people and peers and friends; among the most famous places were: the hotel restaurant Belvedere, in Piazzale Santa Maria Elisabetta, the Pagoda, at the Hotel Des Bains, the restaurant La Vida, in the district of CittĂ Giardino and other Bars and Trattorie dellâIsola.
In January 1967 they were selected to be the musical frame during the charity ceremony of the delivery of the Befane to the children affected by the flood of Venice in 1966; two evenings: the first at the dancing âLa Rosaâ in Pellestrina, the second in Venice, in the Sala delle Colonne in Caâ Giustinian.
In the following years, the musical group broadened the range and began to perform in clubs in Jesolo, Cavallino (Ristorante Vecchia Romagna and Hotel Europa) and in Sottomarina di Chioggia (Kings Club), without neglecting other charity initiatives such as the concert that took place every Christmas at the Teatro Marinoni at the Lido Lido Hospital in Venice.
In January 1968, they participated in the Festival for Musical Complexes in Venice, organized by the Associazione Musica in Laguna, where they ranked First in their category.
Meanwhile, the concert activity continues in the various clubs, alternating with school commitments; to remember, a long trip to Trentino-Alto Adige (Vattaro), where they had an engagement to play 15 days during the Christmas holidays and in the New Year, between December 1968 and January 1969.
The group then finally dissolved in the summer of 1969, but thanks to the Social Networks, the four âchildrenâ, fifty years later, in 2023, they will find themselves...., but this is another story.
